The story of the
Raven and the Eagle
Koueberg Wines was born of family, friendship and the sea. The creation of two cousins with roots in the cool Cape Agulhas terroir… Like the Raven and Eagle on their family crests (and on the Koueberg label) they too spread their wings, but with the understanding that they would one day return to the coast at the Southernmost tip of Africa – their ‘heimat’.
For us at Koueberg Wines it is important to remember where your roots are, culture and history is nearly as important as geographical location and climate, as this explains the context of your creations.
The Riel is a cultural dance that lets dust billow from the feet and ‘velskoene’, as the dancers rhythmically kick the soil.
Watch how the dust settles after a long day and enjoy the glorious symphony of African clouds in the sky above our two oceans.

Merlot
A delightfully dark deception, a sublime example of sable satisfaction.
Tasting Notes: This cool climate Merlot has bright aromas of red berries and cherries on the nose. The palate is lined with silky smooth tannins, ripe plum, dark fruit and a pithy spicy finish.
Suggested Pairings: Eland Loin, Filet Mignon, Honey- Barbequed Chicken, Pork Loin and Mushroom Risotto.

BLIKSEMBOS
Sauvignon Blanc
Cape Agulhas lightning in a bottle, striking aromatic lightness in a glass.
Tasting Notes: Zesty cool climate Sauvignon Blanc exuding layers of white peach, passion fruit and blackcurrant on the nose. Tropical fruit and citrus abound with lingering hints of fynbos and chalk on the palate.
Suggested Pairings: Grilled Geelbek, Seared Tuna, Artichokes, Galjoen on the coals.

Viognier
Blossoming high honey-tongued notes that play harmoniously in turn with the wagon wheels.
Tasting Notes: Rich, complex, barrel fermented, cool climate Viognier. Hints of honeysuckle, naartjie and peaches on the nose. The palate is structured and fresh with lingering complexity.
Suggested Pairings: Mild Creamy Korma Curry, Abalone Stew, Grilled West Coast Rock Lobster.

ALTYDVYGIE
Nouvelle
An endless field of grassy tones, an exotic, indigenous experience in every tantalising glass.
Tasting Notes: South Africa’s own white cultivar developed in 1964 by the late professor Chris Orffer. Nouvelle’s parents are Crouchen Blanc (Cape Riesling) and Ugni Blanc. This barrel fermented wine proliferates flavours of green apple and capsicum that end in a springbuck ‘pronk’ and greasy bubblegum finish.
Suggested Pairings: Apple Crumble, Pulled Pork, Sushi.

KINKELBOS
Cabernet Sauvignon
Distinctive tones of full-bodied dryness, nestled in the wild foredunes.
Tasting Notes: This cool climate Merlot has bright aromas of red berries and cherries on the nose. The palate is lined with silky smooth tannins, ripe plum, dark fruit and a pithy spicy finish.
